When a childhood pal gets hitched and you get to be a part of it, it’s magic.

I first met Kailey when we were 11 — when we also went to school with three of her bridesmaids and her amazing hair and makeup artist. It was so incredible to see her wed her longtime love Dillon with her girls — and pup — by her side!

It’s hard to believe I first met this wonderful couple close to a year ago and now they’re married! I still remember my first impression of Amber and Joe — sweet, sweet, sweet!

These two are seriously so kind and so in love. Their day was just filled with nothing but joy, smiles, and romance. They put so much work into making their day beautiful and perfect, and boy was it worth it!

This post has been months in the making. In early August, after months of planning, I got together with an amazing group of women to create a wonderfully unique styled shoot. It was better than I had even dreamed it would be.

Sophisticated Punk is a moody and romantic wedding shoot centered around the rebellious nature of punk and rock n’ roll, combined with elegant design.

Seven years ago I never would have imagined myself doing what I’m doing. I actually didn’t even know it was a possibility. I was just about to enter university to study English and film studies, not really knowing what career to get into after that.

Despite being terrible at tests and not caring too much for essays (of which I wrote about 90 over the four years of university… 😐 ), I actually liked school. Attending lectures, and simply learning every day, was something I really enjoyed.

Cut to the year after graduation and I was running the campus newspaper, no closer to figuring out what to do once my year as editor-in-chief was up. I had some major soul searching to do.

I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t Googled “how to write wedding vows” uncomfortably close to their wedding day. Writing wedding vows isn’t easy, even when you know you have a million amazing things to say to your soon-to-be spouse.

Why is that?

Is it the pressure of knowing you only have a certain amount of time to say all these magical things and make all these powerful promises? Is it the stress of a deadline? Is it knowing 100 people are going to be staring at you while you make said powerful promises?

The music is blaring, drinks are flowing, shoes are off, and the dance floor is packed. It’s been hours since dinner and your guests — and you — are hungry!

Late night wedding snacks have become all the rage of late, but bringing out food at midnight is a tradition that’s been around for ages. Guests are so excited to see food brought out, especially when it’s junk food and they’ve had a few cocktails.

On top of being a delicious and fun treat, serving late night snacks at your wedding is responsible — people will have food in their bellies and will be less like to get overly intoxicated.

Howdy, Hamilton!

Just about two weeks ago my partner, Justin, and I packed up our life in Kitchener-Waterloo and relocated to Hamilton. We knew we loved it before we moved here, but wow — it’s just been blowing our minds since we arrived.

I have a confession. I’m a Harry Potter nerd. The best part of that confession is that it’s not even shameful — in fact, I think it’s more shameful to not be a Harry Potter nerd. Like most Gen Y’ers, Harry Potter was a huge part of my upbringing. With Gen Y kids now getting to the age where they want to get married, Harry Potter-themed weddings are becoming a thing. And I love it. What I don’t love is the aesthetic of a lot of them. Sure, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, but I’ve found some examples of HP weddings look more like a kids’ birthday party.

Hello there! My name is Kate and I’m a certified wedding coordinator. I’m so thrilled to be launching my business and helping dreams become reality! First thing’s first, there are a few things you need to know about me:
  1. I’m a proud dog mom to Sawyer, a three-month-old cockapoo.
  2. I worked at (and eventually ran) my university’s newspaper for five years, during which time I did photography, design, and covered news.
  3. I have my first-degree black belt in taekwondo, which I received when I was 13.
