My Week Exploring Hamilton

June 12, 2017 0

Howdy, Hamilton!

Just about two weeks ago my partner, Justin, and I packed up our life in Kitchener-Waterloo and relocated to Hamilton. We knew we loved it before we moved here, but wow — it’s just been blowing our minds since we arrived.

I’ve spent the last week or so getting to know my new city; checking out coffee shops, going on late-night joy rides to new areas with my dog, walking the waterfront. It certainly helps that we didn’t get internet until Friday — it forced me to take a break and get out into my new surroundings.

Here are my favourites from my week of exploration. Have you tried any of these? Let me know of other cool spots to check out!

Mulberry Street Coffeehouse

Several locals told me this is a must-visit cafe and I was not disappointed! Mulberry has such a cool, cozy vibe with the exposed brick and antique finishes.

Despite the weather on the rainy day I went here, I decided to explore James St. N. a bit after I left the cafe. There’s a ton of stores I need to go back to, galleries to peruse, and obviously, restaurants I want to eat at!

Redchurch Cafe + Gallery

Based on my eavesdropping while in line, Redchurch has only been open a few weeks. IT’S SO PRETTY.

Seriously. It’s basically made for Instagram. Its design is just gorgeous. Plus, there’s a gallery in the back with awesome photos of Hamilton buildings.

Aesthetics aside, they’re killing the game. They made a mean almond milk flat white and had lots of yummy looking treats.

Exploring Hamilton

Berkeley North

I drove down King William on a fluke one day and literally shouted ‘WOAH!’ when I saw all of the restaurants. The next day Justin and I walked over to get a closer look and decided to hit Berkeley’s patio.

This place is so hip it hurts. They also have a good beer selection and their menu is healthy and fresh. I got a delicious couscous bowl and Justin had fresh pasta made in-house.

My Dog’s Cafe and Bar

I saved my favourite for last! This dog-friendly cafe on Locke has delicious coffee and treats, healthy smoothies (that are also delicious!), and you get to bring your furry bestie out with you.

I personally would take my dog everywhere with me if I could, so I was super excited when I found out this place existed. He got to socialize with other pups while I got some work done, and I also got to pet like four dogs so it was win-win-win.

Thanks for being so radical, Hamilton! I can’t wait to explore more of this beautiful city.
